ATTRACTIONS TO VISIT:
- NAIROBI NATIONAL PARK
- DAVID SHELDRICK’S ELEPHANT ORPHANAGE
- THE GIRAFFE CENTER
Join us in an exciting, life changing experience as we explore Nairobi’s leading attractions, one by one.
The tour begins with a pick up from your city hotel at 0630 hrs, by one of our professional safari guides with a fully safari equipped vehicle. Our first stop will be at the Nairobi National Park where after clearing with the park authorities, we venture into the park and begin game drives in search of the wildlife that is resident to this park. The park which is Kenya’s oldest having been established in 1946 covers an area of 117 sq. km. The most unique thing about Nairobi National Park is its unique and strategic location, only 10 kilometers from Nairobi City Center.
During game drives, it is not unusual to come face to face with Rhinos, Giraffes, Zebras, Buffalos, Hartebeests, Elands and even Lions going about their normal business. On a lucky day, the park offers a special setting to take photos of animals with the sky crappers of Nairobi city forming a unique background, something you may not find anywhere else in the world. Our experience guide who has in depth knowledge of the park’s routes as well as the animals and the habitat they are usually found in will stop every time there is a sighting, and also spend time providing information about various wildlife and plant species.
At 1000 hrs, you check out of the park and proceed to the David Sheldrick’s Elephant Orphanage. This haven for orphaned, Elephant calves opens daily between 1100 and 1200 hrs. for public visits. This is the time when the calves are bottle fed on specially developed formula milk. As the young ones enjoy themselves, sometimes even enjoying the mud bath, one of their care takers will be giving a briefing about each calf, and the circumstances under which they found themselves at the orphanage.
Most of the Elephants end up here because of various calamities that they face in the wild. These include famine and death of their mothers of both natural and man-made causes like man holes and snares.
After having an amazing time with the Elephants, you will proceed to the Giraffe Center for a rare opportunity to get up close with Rothschild’s Giraffes. Here, you will spend time hand feeding and taking photos with this rare species of Giraffes. The local naturalists will give you further information about these graceful animals. The Giraffe Center is a conservation area managed by the African Fund for Endangered Wildlife. You will therefore get a briefing about conservation efforts that have helped this endangered species thrive despite several challenges. Some years back, Rothschild’s which are mainly found in Kenya, Uganda and South Sudan were near extinct. Today, the numbers have increased due to conservation efforts, although there were less than 670 surviving in the wild as of year 2010.
Having visited these fascinating attractions, the rest of the afternoon will be at leisure. You may enjoy OPTIONAL lunch or a shopping tour before your driver guide drops you off back at your hotel.
