Murchison Falls National Park and the Mighty River Nile

Murchison Falls National Park:

Uganda’s largest national park protects a chunk of untamed African savannah bisected by the mighty river Nile. It is named for the dramatic Murchison Falls, where the world’s longest river explodes violently through a narrow cleft in the Rift Valley escarpment to plunge into a frothing pool 43 m below. Wildlife populations have largely recovered from the poaching of the 1980’s; in the lush borassus grassland to the north of the Nile, elephant, buffalo, giraffe and a variety of antelopes are regularly encountered on game drives, while lion are seen with increasing frequency.  The Nile itself hosts one of Africa’s densest hippo and crocodile populations, and a dazzling variety of water birds including the world’s most accessible wild population of the rare shoebill stork. The River Nile Launch Cruise: The launch trip from Paraa to the foot of Murchison Falls is one of if not the most breathtaking activities while on a Uganda safari. On this River Nile cruise in Murchison Falls National Park Uganda you will see Hippos, crocodiles in abundance and elephants, buffaloes, waterbucks as well as a variety of birds like fish eagles kingfishers ducks, bee-eaters, heron, cormorants, and if lucky, the rare shoebill. The boat trip starts at 0900hrs and 1400hrs every day but Special time schedules can be arranged with Park management. The 17 km launch trip from Paraa to the falls and back takes about three hours, where as the 28 km boat trip from Paraa to the Delta and back takes about four to five hours. One can see a similar variety of animals and birds on either trips. Planning a safari to Kenya, Tanzania or Uganda? Talk to us on: safari@authentic-eastafrica.com
